How Phra Legal collects, uses, and safeguards personal information when you engage with our services or website.

Last updated: 1 May 2025

Your information is treated with care

Phra Legal collects only the information necessary to provide legal services and respond to enquiries. We do not sell, rent, or share personal data with third parties for marketing purposes. This policy explains our practices clearly and in plain language.

1. Who we are

Phra Legal is a law practice registered in Thailand, operating from 84 Witthayu Road, Pathum Wan, Bangkok 10330. We provide legal services relating to estate consultation, probate administration, and inheritance matters. For the purposes of this policy, Phra Legal is the data controller in respect of personal information we hold about you.

If you have questions about this policy or how we handle your information, please contact us at [email protected] or by telephone at +66 2 254 87 36.

2. Information we collect

We collect personal information in the following circumstances:

2.1 Information you provide to us

  • Your name, contact telephone number, and email address when you submit an enquiry through our website or contact us directly.
  • Information about your legal matter that you share during an initial consultation or in correspondence — for example, details about a deceased person's estate, the identity of beneficiaries, or the nature of a dispute.
  • Payment information when you engage our services, handled through secure third-party processors. We do not store card details on our own systems.
  • Identification documents where required to comply with applicable law or professional obligations.

2.2 Information collected automatically

  • Technical information about your visit to our website, including your IP address, browser type, device type, pages visited, and referral source. This is collected via standard server logs and analytics tools.
  • Cookie data as described in our Cookie Policy.

2.3 Information from third parties

In the course of handling a legal matter, we may receive information about you from courts, government registries, banks, or other parties involved in an estate. We handle such information with the same care as information you provide directly.

3. How we use your information

We use personal information for the following purposes:

  • To provide legal services. Information you share is used to advise you, prepare documents, communicate with relevant authorities, and fulfil our obligations under our engagement with you.
  • To respond to enquiries. If you contact us with a question, we use your contact details and the content of your message to respond appropriately.
  • To meet legal and professional obligations. We may be required to retain records, conduct identity checks, or disclose information by law or by the rules of our professional regulator.
  • To operate and improve our website. Anonymous, aggregated analytics help us understand how visitors use our site and where improvements might be made.
  • To send service-related communications. We may contact you with information relevant to your matter or, where you have agreed, to follow up on an enquiry.

We do not use personal information for automated decision-making or profiling that produces legal or similarly significant effects.

4. Legal basis for processing

Under Thailand's Personal Data Protection Act B.E. 2562 (PDPA) and applicable data protection principles, we process personal data on the following bases:

  • Performance of a contract. Where you have engaged our services, processing is necessary to fulfil our obligations to you.
  • Legitimate interests. For website analytics and security, and to respond to enquiries from prospective clients, where such interests are not overridden by your rights.
  • Legal obligation. Where we are required to process data to comply with professional rules, anti-money laundering obligations, or court orders.
  • Consent. Where we have asked for and received your explicit consent — for example, for non-essential cookies. You may withdraw consent at any time.

5. How we share your information

We do not sell or share your personal information with third parties for their own marketing or commercial purposes. We may share information in the following limited circumstances:

  • Service providers. We work with trusted third parties who assist with IT infrastructure, secure document handling, and payment processing. These parties are contractually required to handle data only as instructed and to maintain appropriate security.
  • Courts and authorities. As part of our legal work, we may be required to submit information to courts, the Land Department, the Revenue Department, or other bodies in Thailand.
  • Other legal professionals. With your knowledge and where necessary, we may correspond with opposing counsel, notaries, or foreign lawyers involved in a matter.
  • Legal requirement. Where we are required by law, court order, or professional regulator to disclose information.

6. Retention of personal data

We retain personal data only for as long as necessary for the purposes described in this policy or as required by law. As a general guide:

  • Client files and correspondence relating to completed matters are retained for a minimum of ten years from the conclusion of the engagement, in line with professional practice standards and statute of limitations considerations.
  • Enquiry records not leading to an engagement are retained for up to twelve months.
  • Website analytics data is retained in anonymised form and not linked to identifiable individuals beyond ninety days.

When data is no longer required, it is securely deleted or anonymised.

7. Security

We take reasonable technical and organisational steps to protect personal information against unauthorised access, loss, or disclosure. These include encrypted communications, access controls, and secure document handling procedures. No method of electronic transmission or storage is entirely without risk, and we cannot provide an absolute assurance of security, but we take this responsibility seriously.

8. Your rights

Under Thailand's Personal Data Protection Act, you have the right to:

  • Access the personal information we hold about you and receive a copy.
  • Correct inaccurate or incomplete information.
  • Delete personal data we hold, subject to legal retention obligations.
  • Restrict processing in certain circumstances.
  • Object to processing based on legitimate interests.
  • Withdraw consent where processing is based on consent, without affecting the lawfulness of prior processing.
  • Portability of data you have provided, in a structured, machine-readable format, where technically feasible.

To exercise any of these rights, please write to us at [email protected]. We will respond within thirty days. Some rights may be limited where we are required to retain information by law or where doing so would affect the rights of others.

9. Cookies

Our website uses cookies and similar technologies. For a full explanation of what cookies we use and how to manage them, please see our Cookie Policy.

10. Links to other websites

Our website may include links to external websites for reference purposes. We are not responsible for the privacy practices of those sites and encourage you to read their privacy notices separately.

11. Children's information

Our website is not directed at children under the age of eighteen. We do not knowingly collect personal data from minors. If a matter involves a minor as a beneficiary, we handle any associated information with the additional care that circumstance warrants, and in consultation with the responsible adult.

12. Changes to this policy

We may update this privacy policy from time to time. The current version will always be available on this page, and the date of the most recent revision is noted at the top. Substantive changes will be communicated to active clients by email where appropriate.

13. Contact and complaints
